Doug Meiklejohn from the New Mexico Environmental Law Center will speak at the October 12 lunch meeting of the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico. His talk, titled “The Sharecropper and the Mule: Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Laws” will include a brief history of the NM Environmental Law Center and several examples of current cases. He will also discuss issues of current interest to the center.

Meiklejohn will address efforts by the current federal and state administrations to weaken law, regulations and policies that protect the environment and environmental justice communities and explore the ways the federal and state government currently work to limit or prevent public participation in the process.

Meiklejoh is the founder and executive director of the New Mexico Environmental Law Center, a non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost legal services to community and environmental groups worked to protect the environment in New Mexico.

Anyone who wishes to attend the October 12 meeting must make reservations by 10 a.m. on Monday, October 8, either by calling the league office at (505) 884-8441 and leaving a voice message or by emailing lunch@lwvcnm.org   

The lunch unit meets at the Embassy Suites Hotel 1000 Woodward NE in Albuquerque. Cost is $22 per person. Non-members are welcome, but you must make a reservation.
